About Weiser State Forest

 

The Roaring Creek tract is a jewel of Columbia and Northumberland counties and eastern Pennsylvania recreation. The Pennsylvania property was acquired by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in 2003 from Aqua Pennsylvania and has been in a process of restoration to serve the public. It also continues as a high quality water supply. The natural beauty of Roaring Creek lies in the creek valley bounded on either side by parallel mountain ridges, Big Mountain on the south and Little Mountain on the north. 

 

Recreation opportunities include hiking, mountain biking, kayaking, hunting, fishing, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, and nature study. This is also coal country, and many trails in the Roaring Creek were used by miners daily to get from their homes to the mines.resence of a line of 60+ windmills located on Big Mountain supplying green wind energy.

WELCOME

Welcome to the Big Mountain Scramble trail run. Girl Scout Service Unit 303 invites you to join us on April 28th, 2019 at the Roaring Creek Tract of Weiser State Forest on Big Mountain for a 7.1 mile trail run and 1.9 mile fun walk.

 

The trail run includes varying trail conditions descending from the top of Big Mountain (elevation 1644 ft.) down to the Roaring Creek Valley (elevation 1152 ft.). The fun walk is relatively level and follows a trail along the top of Big Mountain.

 

The Big Mountain Scramble provides helps underwrite programming for the Girl Scouts in Columbia, Montour and Northumberland counties. Your participation may help a girl participate in scouting events she might not be able to do otherwise.
